History of dance with a man called adam.

So, me and my dad were talking a few months back, and he said he wanted to help me out with this blog, because he thinks as himself as "Mr Music." Basically the idea was for him to give some quality artists/songs/albums from "back in the day."
So, yes, its taken him around 2 months to actually give me a first post and here it is.

Greg Wilson is a hero of mine. As 12 year old, I used to sit (tape deck at the ready ) and wait for Greg's legendary monster mixes on Mike Shaft's "Taking Care of Business" on Piccadilly Radio Manchester. .. It was the highlight of year, if you were into soul, electro funk & hip hop.. You were the coolest kid around if you had greg's mixes blaring out your ghetto blaster, while walking around the estate wearing your Le Shark (Poor Man's Lacoste) Polo T-Shirts, Farah Trousers and Winfield Four Stripe Trainers. ( Yep thats right, Woolworths Own!) Well my Mum couldn't afford Adidas Originals back then... Poor thing.
Anyway here, in my eyes (ears), are some Greg's finest tracks.

Then:
Walking On Confusion (Greg Wilson mash-up)

Rockers Revenge " Walking on Sunshine" vocals with New Orders "Confusion" beats. Both tracks produced by Arthur Baker but Greg mixed this up while being the DJ at the Hacienda, well before Madchester and certainly before Soulwax started the "Mash Up Trend". . Ahead of his time, I say.

Walking On Confusion (gw mash-up) by gregwilson

Now:
The XX - Night Time (Greg Wilson Remix)

Nothing wrong with the album version, but Greg has turned it into a Nu Balearic bubbler. Which is now in vogue/fashion/all the rave, as they say. Listen and float away to the new subtle beats to the original dreamy atmosphere.

Also you can listen the to famous mixes my dad use listen to back in 82/83 on Greg's web site.

Flux Pavillion - Lines In Wax EP

This Monday saw the debut EP release on Circus from the man of the moment, Flux Pavilion. Highly anticipated and he doesn’t dissapoint with this absolute banger.
1. Flux Pavilion Ft. Foreign Beggars – Lines In Wax
The Ep’s title track has a crazy rolling acid synth that leads the way into a devastating bass fuelled mix. Great collaboration with Foreign Beggars.
2. Flux Pavilion – Haunt You
This haunting track is adds a bit of variation. Smooth melody held together with the trademark Flux effects makes this for a popular head nodding release.
3. Flux Pavilion – Hold Me Close
It’s impossible to not nod your head to this one. Flux moves onto a 4×4 beat on this and another great use of a vocal sample.
4. Flux Pavilion – I Cant Stop
A mid range bass on the drop paired with a nasty sub, takes you on an emotional, stand still and admire trip. In my opinion, strongest and greatest track on the EP.
The Lines In Wax EP is out now on Circus Records.

Buy it from play.com here or from itunes here.

Rubber.

Rubber is a indie horror film about a telepathic, killer radial tire, and it is
directed by Quentin Dupieux. If you haven’t heard of him (or his previous film Steak), you're either film RETARD, or you're just not familiar with him under that guise. Quentin is non other than, the amazing Mr.Oizo.
As i sit here now typing away at my desk, I have not seen this film, but coming from the reviews that those lucky songs of b's that went to all those film festival, its living up to my expectations/imaginations. All i have heard is good things for this film, well apart from the same complaint from pretty much every critic, the length....hmm, i suppose that could be a bad thing, but if the film has a great dialogue and amazing cinematography then it's pretty much sold for me, not to mention the soundtrack......

So i hear you say, what about the soundtrack, well do not worry, i'll shall tell you about it. The soundtrack has been created by Oizo himself and Gaspard Auge (you know, that bearded guy from that daft punk rip off duo Justice), so with those juicy french electro bass, synths, and drums, that alone will surely be amazing.

Rubber is not scheduled for release in the UK at this time, but it is being released at cinemas in France on the 10th November, and the soundtrack is being released 2 days prior on the 8th November.

But if you want to have a little peak at what is to come on that, you can buy the EP "Rubber" now.

SHEFF

Howdo,
Been in Sheffield for a couple of weeks, and its safe to say i'm enjoying it.
Theres so much Dubstep + Drum & Bass, but not enough House/Techno, which is a bit disappointing to be honest. But non the less, its still a pretty sick city.
Anyway, i've recently been listening to chilled/trippy dubstep/electronica, the likes of Mount Kimbie, James Blake, Scuba, Lulu Rouge, and im liking what I hear.
I suggest to everyone, just sit in a tent, have a smoke and chill out listening to Mount Kimbie's album "Crooks & Lovers" or their EP "Maybes"

Fuse

Well in a few days i shall be off to the isle of the isle of wight.....yeah, for BESTIVAL!
I literally cannot wait, it shall be one of the greatest moments of my life.
LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, Jack Beats, The Japanese Popstars, The Prodigy to name a few.
Not forgetting Rolf Harris and Vanilla Ice.
But i've been listening to this song over and over recently, and even though this artist isn't playing at Bestival, I think this might be still being played on my Ipod the whole festival.
its Fuse (Myd Dirty Funky Remix) - Hudson Mohawke and seriously its just perfect for a nice summer day. In fact it is just perfect....full stop.

I think I usually have good grammar in this blog, but the way I'm reading back this now, it's pretty bad.
Im sorry but i think it's to do with this song.
Its just too good for me to give a proper review of it.
So yeah.
I'm going to enjoy this, and enjoy Bestival.
Next time i'll probably be giving you a review of what i've seen at the festival.
So until then......

Fundamental Fortune

Oh hai der.
Been a while.....yet again.
This is what i've been up to in order.

  1. went to my grandma's in south wales
  2. worked a lot of hours
  3. sorted out my needs for uni in september
  4. worked even more hours
  5. went out and spent lots of money i earnt for uni on beer.
  6. created a remix for Der Die Das.
and i can officially reveal that remix right here, right now!

Der Die Das are  a 5 piece Synth/Nu-Wave Electronica outfit, hailing from various suburbs around Manchester. The band are near virtuostic in every element, defining the term ‘Cutting Edge’, with euphoric synth lines and expressive vocals to match.
They will release a 5 Track EP in the summer through Super Style Rhythm Records. Already receiving radio airplay from BBC Radio 1, BBC Subculture and BBC Manchester, the band have built up a CV worth shouting about.
Supporting bands such as The Chapman Family, Metronomy, Grammatics, Chairlift, Boy Crisis and The Answering Machine has allowed the band to incorporate elements of each into their own sound.

So yes, this is my remix for their first official single Fundamental Fortune.

Enjoy and give feedback.

I Need Air.

So much for summer eh, its been constantly raining recently near me. Oh well. Typical I suppose. Just thought I’d fill you in on what’s been going on in my life recently.
Finished my college course, now I'm planning to go to Sheffield Hallam University in September to study Film & Media Production.
I'm working constantly to earn dollar for uni, and I honestly can't stop listening to Magnetic Man's "I Need Air."
Just in case you’re a dubstep fan who’s been living under a rock these past few months, Magnetic Man is the musical ménage à trois of SkreamBenga and Artwork.
Their debut release is a dark and brooding affair featuring the vocal talents of Angela Hunte, better known for co-writing the Alicia Keys track “New York State Of Mind”.
“I Need Air” will be available for download on July 25 and will hit the vinyl shelves the following day. The single comes backed with remixes by Redlight and the Digital Soundboy crew.

SUMMER!

ELLO.
The sun is shining and the music is blaring, it can only mean one thing, its SUMMER!
I have been in hiding for the past few months, getting on with my college work, and now that is all over and done with I can get on with supplying lovely reviews of what I think will be massive over the course of this year, and especially what could be in contention for TUNE OF THE SUMMER.
I've been listening to tracks over the last couple of weeks and here is my shortlist to what is going to be getting played on the dancefloor this summer.

Two of Beatport's biggest selling artists Mark Knight and Wolfgang Gartner have teamed up to deliver a beast of a summer anthem. Its name is latin for 'tear to pieces', the track was aptly named by a competition winner, and doesn't disappoint, and I believe it is going to do just that on the dance floor this summer.

This song has been bubbling since this year's Miami WMC, and the much anticipated release has already gained massive support from Axwell, Tiesto, and has featured heavily on Pete Tong's Radio 1 'Essential Selection' show.

I believe that this just one of those songs where it can make anyone and everyone go absolutely mental when it is dropped. I mean this is just pure filth. Some might say it sounds like his Babylon track, but hey, I love that song, with that mean driving bass, and this track is no different. The powerful synth stabs, mixed with a heavy HEAVY bassline = utter perfection.

Annie Mac is a big fan of this one, and I believe that this summer, she is going to reppin' this A LOT.

3. Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP - We No Speak Americano
Personally I'm not a fan of this song, but since it dropped in March its been getting some heavy support. Its a collaboration between Aussie DJ duo Yolanda Be Cool & fellow Australian, DCUP – sampling Renato Carosone’s italian classic "tu vuò fà l’americano".
We No Speak Americano is an utterly infectious dance floor jam, an instant-party-starter, & necessary download, if you like this sort of stuff.

4. Chemical Brothers - Swoon (Boys Noize Summer Mix)
Chemical Brothers "Swoon" is a hypnotic track with its eerie lyrics and that addicting whine. When I first came across Boys Noize's remix last week I was desperate to hear it but was unable to due to my Internet not being able to find a decent version that wasn't a radio rip. But now I have it, I can officially say that this remix is INCREDIBLE! It is something I didn't expect from Boys Noize. He has kept much of the original track in tact but it now has more of a disco/tech house vibe to it. Easily a contender for remix of the summer!

this song really brings me joy

One of my absolute favourite tunes right now and has been since around August last year is by a producer called Joy Orbison. The track in question is called "Hyph Mngo"
Joy's sound is perfect for todays music scene - deep, epic yet banging, morose, drenched in synths, and rhythmically occupying the uncharted territory between dubstep, garage and house.
But there is a remix out there, that I have been loving at pretty much the same level as the original.
It is by Andreas Saag, yes, I'm not that familiar with him either. But non the less, he's created a beast of a house remix for "Hyph Mngo."

I'm usually a bit underwhelmed when big tunes get remixed, but in this case the Swedish house producer has really done the original justice - slowing it down a touch, and remoulding it as a thumping great slice of almost balearic sounding piano house. It's an unofficial 'tribute' remix too, so I don't have to feel guilty by sharing it.

and if you haven't already heard this remix, or the original, WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS?
